Psychological and Neuropsychological Evaluations:

Evaluations are conducted in order to diagnose an attention deficit disorder, a learning disability, or another developmental or psychological disorder.  Parents may wish to obtain this type of evaluation if they are seeking school based special education services for their child.

A comprehensive evaluation can determine whether a child will meet eligibility requirements for special education services.  An evaluation can pinpoint if a child would benefit from direct remedial services, testing modifications, or classroom accommodations, and identify which services would be of value.  This type of assessment is also beneficial for children who have already been identified as having special needs by their school district in order to insure that the child is receiving the special education services, classroom accommodations, or testing accommodations that he or she requires.

Evaluations typically include an interview, a full developmental history, and standardized testing, in the areas of cognitive functioning, language development, auditory processing, memory, academic achievement, attentional abilities, executive functions, visual processing, and social and emotional development.

The results of these tests provide standardized measures which are interpreted into a profile of the child's strengths and weaknesses. This information is then used to create an appropriate plan for treatment, remediation, and intervention.  A comprehensive written report along with an informing conference is provided in order to present the findings of the testing and respond to any questions parents may have.
